About Mapparition
One line
Mapparition is a map of haunted places, cryptid sightings, oddities and ruins, state by state.
Short
Mapparition: Nowhere Normal is a field guide to the strange places near you. Haunted houses, cryptid sightings, abandoned ruins and roadside oddities glow on the map next to lighthouses, museums, historic sites and hiking trails. Find a spot, go there, check in, and climb from Flatlander to Keeper of the Strange.
Long
Mapparition: Nowhere Normal turns the weird history of America into a map you can visit. Every state is a chapter in the Field Guide, opened one at a time like an old case file, with fog closing in at the borders.
The strange stuff comes first. Haunted places, cryptid sightings, oddities, abandoned places and roadside attractions get big glowing pins that never get lost in the crowd. Around them sit thousands of lighthouses, museums, National Register historic sites, monuments and hiking trails, with real trail lines drawn right on the map.
Get close enough to a place and you can check in for points, earn medals for finishing collections like Lighthouse Keeper or Cryptid Hunter, and post your own story and YouTube videos from the spot. Ghost hunters, cryptozoologists and historians can apply for a verified badge. When you’re ready for a road trip, My Trip puts your saved places in driving order and hands the route to Apple Maps or Google Maps.
